LeBron James extends record for leading playoff team in points/rebounds/assists

From Elias: LeBron James had 29 points, eight rebounds and seven assists -- all team highs — in the Heat’s series-clinching win over the Knicks on Wednesday night. It was the 20th time in his pro career that James led his team outright in points, rebounds and assists in a playoff game. That’s by far the highest such total for any player in NBA history. In fact the only other players who did that in at least 10 games are Larry Bird (13) and Tim Duncan (11).

Wade’s missed free throws lose the game for Heat, put him with Wallace and Chamberlain

From Elias: Dwyane Wade also took a page from Wilt Chamberlain’s handbook by going 4-for-11 from the free-throw line in Miami’s 89-87 loss. Wade was the first NBA player to miss as many as seven foul shots in a playoff game that his team lost by two or fewer points since the Pistons’ Ben Wallace missed all seven of his free throws in an 86-84 loss to the Cavaliers in Game 5 of the Conference Semifinals in 2006. Chamberlain did that three times in such close playoff losses, the most for any NBA player.

LeBron’s 32 points in 31 minutes leads to blowout

From Elias: LeBron James scored 32 points in a mere 31 minutes, 41 seconds of playing time in the Heat’s 100-67 rout of the Knicks in the opening game of a first-round series. It was the 41st time in his 93 playoff games that James has scored 30-or-more points, but it was the first of those 93 games in which James connected on at least 70 percent of his field-goal attempts; he made 10 of his 14 field-goal attempts on Saturday.

The final score was significant, too. The NBA counts more than 3,300 playoff games in its history, dating back to 1947; Miami became just the third team to score in triple figures while holding its opponents below 70 points. In the first round of the 1996 playoffs, the Jazz took a 102-64 decision from the Trail Blazers, and in the opening round in 2009, the Nuggets won by a 121-63 score at New Orleans.

Celtics defense holds Heat under 70, league-leading 11th time since 2007-08

From Elias: The Celtics held the Heat to 66 points in their victory on Tuesday night. It marked the 11th time since the start of the 2007-08 season that Boston has allowed fewer than 70 points in a game, by far the highest total for any team in the league over that span (next highest: eight by Chicago).

No Wade, no Bosh = no problem for the Heat

From Elias: LeBron James scored 32 points to lead the undermanned Heat to a 97-88 victory over the Rockets. It was the fifth game that Miami has played without both Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh since the “Big Three” joined forces with the club, and the Heat has won each of those games with James averaging 34.3 PPG in those triumphs.

Wizards make history by beating Miami and Chicago

From Elias: The Wizards won in Miami on Saturday after they won their previous road game, in Chicago on Monday. It’s the first time in NBA history that a team with a winning percentage under .300 won consecutive road games against opponents who had winning percentages of at least .700, at least 10 games into a season.

Miami’s win is more than a mere technicality

From Elias: James Jones and Dwyane Wade were called for flagrant fouls, while Wade and LeBron James were also whistled for technical fouls in the Heat’s 83-72 home win over the Bulls. The last team to win a game despite having two flagrants and two technicals called against its players was the Mavericks on Jan. 9, 2007. In that game at Utah, Jerry Stackhouse was called for two flagrant fouls and a tech, and teammate Anthony Johnson, who didn’t even play in the game, was also called for a technical.

LeBron has his best shooting night

From Elias: LeBron James scored 28 points on 12-for-15 shooting from the field to lead the Heat to a victory over the Raptors on Wednesday night. That is James’ highest field-goal percentage (.800) in any of the 609 regular-season games he has played in which he has attempted at least 15 shots from the field. James’ previous best shooting performance was 16-for-21 (.762) on March 18, 2011 and February 13, 2012.

LeBron goes on a tear, scores last 17 points for Heat

From Elias: LeBron James scored Miami’s final 17 points in the team’s victory over the Nets on Monday night. James is the fourth player to score 17 straight points for his team in a game this season, joining Deron Williams (18 on March 4), Chris Paul (17 on February 22) and Mo Williams (17 on January 22). Prior to James, the last player to score his team’s final 17 points of a game was Denver’s J.R. Smith on April 13, 2009.
